| Dementia is an umbrella term to describe a variety of progressive conditions that have devastating consequences for all those affected. There are currently an estimated 750,000 people with dementia in the UK, the majority of whom are over 65. For service users at home, in care homes or in hospital, quality of life can be greatly improved when care is delivered by staff who have knowledge about dementia and an understanding of the need for person centred care. Some professionals dealing with people with dementia can find this work challenging and frustrating. Training care staff in dementia awareness will not only benefit the person with dementia but also those caring for them. A unique characteristic of this session is that we explore aspects of the process of ‘normal ageing’ to aid understanding of problems that older people may experience. | This programme provides foundation level knowledge of the definition and types of adult abuse & neglect, signs that can indicate abuse and neglect, an introduction to the legislative and policy base around adult abuse, and how to respond to disclosures of abuse and neglect. Orders of up to 3 workbooks can be posted by second class mail. Orders of more than three workbooks can be collected from one of the locations shown on the order form.
